Hyper!

an international project in the intersection between music & dance

curated & organised together with Filippos Raskovic

In May, as part of the Hyper! project, Philipp von Neumann and Sasha Krutikova from Essen met Despina Sanida Krezia and Jeph Vanger from Athens for a week at the Neue Musik Zentrale. Together they  created an evening-long performance in the intersection between music and dance.
In a distortive environment composed by baile funk and hip hop sound samples, high volume levels and low frequencies that get physical, Jeph and Despina use voice, words, autotune, physical effort and other tools in order to communicate and explore notions of gender, identity and pop culture. On the other hand, Sasha and Philipp move in a minimalist sound space with only one loudspeaker, in contrast to a room filled with loudspeakers. With glitch as a sound phenomenon, further loudspeakers are incorporated in the course of the performance. Both positions establish two different perspectives on the hyperbolic: the use of very many or very few loudspeakers.

Hyper! is part of the "Neue Musik Zentrale 2024" project. "Neue Musik Zentrale 2024" is a project within the Kreativ.Quartiere Ruhr programme, funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and implemented by ECCE - European Centre for Creative Economy GmbH.
